Andrea and I had the honor and privilege to be asked to perform at the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 Ceremony in Park Ridge, N.J. It was a very special event and it has been reported as being one of the largest 9/11/11 ceremonies in the Pascack Valley with 100’s of folks in attendance. It was great to see the community come out and pay their respects.

In the beginning of our busiest summer gigging season ever, we had our latest drummer quit the band. He left without notice, leaving us with a full playing schedule and no drums. Well, like many things, this turned out to be a blessing in disguise. At nearly every show we had people coming up and playing an assortment of percussion with us. Drums, congas, bongos, tambourine, spoons, maracas and more and it's been a blast!!! Some of the best times we've had playing.

Thank you Steve, Billy, Charlie and everyone else who have been jamming with us!!! Good times!

American Legion Post 153, Pig Roast, 6/25/11

The pig roast at the Legion was a lot of fun for us. Lots of great food and drink and people enjoying our music. After greatly enjoying the BBQ I remembered why I don't eat right before singing in a show. Let's just say singing and eating don't go well together!...lol.

We were Presented by Cavalucci Construction and we want to thank them for their support.

A bunch of folks from the Legion came up and played percussion with us. Tambourine, Billy Back on spoons (seen above) and even hot dog tongs. It was a blast and very funny! Live video to be posted soon from this gig.

We'll be playing at Backstreet in Blauvelt this Sat. 7/9/11. Come on out and enjoy the show with us!

Brady's 6/18/11, Requests for Our Troops and for Clarence Clemons.

On Saturday we implemented what I call "Requests for Our Troops" Folks usually make a request or two to the band and put a couple bucks in the jar. So I have decided to do something a bit different. All the money we receive for requests is donated to veteran causes like the Wounded Warrior Project or the Fisher House. Thank you to everyone that was so generous on Saturday! This will be a standard fixture at our shows.

I had a fantastic time at Brady's. Once again a great crowed showed up. Folks were singing, dancing and even playing a little percussion with us.

No applause, just throw money! Who is this guy? Perhaps our new percussionist? The job is open if you want it!

This show is dedicated to the Big Man, Clarence Clemons. Thanks for doing what you did!

We will be at the American Legion in Park Ridge on June 25th and at Backstreet in Blauvelt on July 9th.

Everyone at the show got a "Ride" sticker with our logo on it and one of the highlights of the show was an all "request set." After our first set we invited the audience to request songs off of our "request set list" for the rest of the night. They all seemed to have a lot of fun doing this and it really kept us on our toes.

I want to thank John and Kim for having us @ backstreet to celebrate our anniversary and a big thank you to Susan for her help with all of the pictures, video and getting stickers and request set lists out to everyone!

Saturday night, at Brady's in Northvale, Andrea and I kicked off a new season of shows for ourselves and our band The Ride. We feel real good about the show and it went great. So great in fact that I am considering adding to our schedule more shows like this for the two of us. We played for nearly 4 hours with only one 15 minute break. It was a great way for us to get back in the zone after our long (too long) summer break. We want to thank everyone who came out last night to see us! We'll see you again very soon. Athens N.Y. & War of the Worlds

I recently took the bike up to Athens N.Y. for the weekend. While in town I found out that this is where Steven Spielberg shot part of War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning. Notice the Stewart House sign in both pictures. Click on any picture to enlarge it.

The movie company built a ferry dock at the end of the street and took it down after the movie was shot.

The end of the street is where the train goes by. But there really are no tracks there.

The Tail of the Dragon, Gatlinburg and the back roads of TN.

Our symbolic destination for this trip was a stretch of road called the Tail of the Dragon. The Dragon has 318 curves on an 11 mile road going up and down a mountain.

Before we headed to the Dragon we stayed in Gatlinburg TN. Gatlinburg is on the north edge of The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is very touristy and family oriented. We ate at Calhouns BBQ. It was so good that we ate there again the next night up in Knoxville. Get the baby back ribs and pulled pork.

If you look hard enough you can find some adult fun too. Like at the Shamrock Pub (above). These guys were very good and know a lot of country songs on request. Including "Smoky and the Bandit?" Yes even that, as per Chad's request.

As if 318 curves weren't enough for an interesting ride, it started to pour on the way to the Dragon.

Chad why are you going under the trees in a lighting storm? Chad?...oh...oh no!!!

At the south end of the Dragon is Deals Gap. That's where you will find the Tree of Shame (above). The Dragon can be a hazardous ride if you're not careful. Anyone who dumps their bike has to bring a part that broke off to the Tree of Shame. It's interesting but I won't say funny. That's because there is evidence of some very serious accidents on this tree. So let the tree serve as a warning to other riders to be careful!

From there it was through the back roads of Tennessee up to Knoxville and back home.

The Great Smoky Mountains

From the Blue Ridge Parkway we headed to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This was the most scenic part of the trip and a fun ride up to and down from the peak at Clingmans Dome.

The Blue Ridge Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway is 469 miles long. It goes from Shenandoah National Park in Virgina to The Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina. However it is attached to another 105 miles of Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park making this road, in essence, 574 miles long. We rode a good 400 miles on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Maybe even 450 miles. The road goes through small farms, grassy fields, on the ridges and sometimes through the Appalachian Mountains.

It was very hot during the ride. The temperature reached 105 in parts of Virgina and high 90's everywhere we were riding. But because the road is 2,000 - 6,000 feet high on the mountains it was 10 - 20 degrees cooler where we were. The Parkway crosses the Eastern Continental Divide. Some of you may recall that I crossed The Continental Divide on my trip out west in 2008. See "American Journey 2008" on the left side of this page for pictures and blogs of that trip.

Shenandoah National Park to Cousin Dan's, Virginia.

My buddy Chad and me just got back from a road trip. We took our bikes to the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia and rode Skyline drive. Then we stopped off and stayed at my cousin Danny's place. From there we hopped on the Blue Ridge Parkway for at least 400 miles to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We rode across the Smokys to a well known bike road called the Tail of the Dragon. I'll be blogging about this 5 day 2,023 mile trip and putting up pictures for the next week or two.

Greenwich and New Haven Connecticut

Greenwich and New Haven Connecticut are a good quick day trip. Greenwich is a nice town to stop in. Lots of shops and places to grab something to eat. Take the Tappan Zee Bridge to the Merritt Parkway. It's a nice ride on the Merritt as far as highways go.

The surrounding roads are where it's at. Lots of fun roads to ride and just get lost on.

Then it was off to New Haven, home of Yale University.

Toad's Place is a famous bar in New Haven. It has a long history and became Toad's in 1975. Bands such as The Rolling Stones and U2 have played here as well as Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker to name a few.

Orange County Choppers

I took a trip to Orange County Choppers World Headquarters. This is where they have their retail store, where they build and sell the bikes and home of the TV show American Chopper. I like the show and have been watching it since it came on. The day I went they were having a charity ride and vendors in the lot.

It's easy to get to. Take I 87 North (NY Thruway North) to exit 17. It's at 14 Crossroads Court in Newburgh, N.Y. You can get riding directions to O.C.C. or to anywhere from this website. Just look on the bottom left of this page under "Yahoo Local Maps."

George Washington Bridge (GWB)

As you know, if you have been reading this blog, I have ridden all over the country. However I noticed that one of the places that I have ridden to most often, and for years, does not have one post yet. Yet it is one of the most fun, interesting and coolest places to ride. If I were traveling across country to this place I probably would have blogged pages upon pages about it. But like it is said, we tend to take for granted the things closest to home. Well I'm not going to take it for granted. Welcome to my first post on New York City. I have spent a lot of time on the bike in Little Italy, Ground Zero, Times Square and Central Park. (Riding in Times Square, with a bunch of friends late at night when there is virtually no traffic and you have the whole place to yourself, is one of my top 10 best riding experiences and recommendations). Look for that experience in a future posting. One word of caution, when ridding in the city is that you need to really watch traffic and potholes for safety sake.

Please join me on a recent trip that I took to Central Park.

This is The Dakota. This is where John Lennon lived and was tragically shot. Across the street is an entrance to Central Park and Strawberry Fields. A section of the park dedicated to John.

Coincidentally the day I went was Paul McCartney's birthday. So there were jam sessions all day in Strawberry Fields.

Taking the bike in is great because it is so much easier to park then a car. Just ride to Central Park West and there is usually a good place to fit the bike right next to the park and for free.

2010 Memorial Day Parade, American Legion

For those of you who follow this blog you know that I strongly support our troops both past and present. It is very important to attend the Memorial Day and Veteran's Day ceremonies and parade's to pay respect to those in the military who have sacrificed in keeping our country strong and free.

This year I marched with the Sons of the American Legion, Post 153 in Park Ridge, N.J.

2010 Riding Season Off To A Good Start!

Well this 2010 riding season is off to a good start! We've already had some perfect riding days, weather wise. A refreshing change from last year (but I'm not going there...lol). This year I've been up in Northwest Jersey, PA. and upstate N.Y. on beautiful sunny days, not to hot not to cold. These pictures are from Cornwall, N.Y. I took the back roads up from old 17 past the old Red Apple, through Woodbury. Rode down to the boat basin in Cornwall then around the mountain on the cliff side over the Hudson past West Point.

"The Grill" #8

A good friend of mine (Mike Milo, http://www.milowerx.com/) is an artist in LA. He just wrote and drew a new comic strip. It's called "The Grill." The Grill just so happens to be a local watering hole that we used to visit on occasion....or often....ok, like daily maybe.... I've just seen 10 of the comics and I think they're awesome! Very funny with a bunch of different characters. One of the character's name is Frank and he is loosely based on me and my likeness. Can you guess which one?...lol. I wonder if I have any input to his appearance?

Palisades Interstate Park, Henry Hudson Drive

A very interesting ride in North East New Jersey is on the Henry Hudson Dr. This rode is built along the Hudson River in the Palisades Interstate Park. It goes from Alpine, under the George Washington Bridge to Historic Fort Lee . It is very scenic and a fun rode but be careful. It’s a two way road that is very narrow and bumpy. You can stop at the Alpine Boat Basin or the Englewood Boat Basin along the way and check out the views.

At the southern end of the road you can visit Historic Fort Lee where the Continental Army placed its batteries over the Hudson.

Battle Of Monmouth, 2009

This June 27, 2009 we rode to Monmouth, N.J. to see a reenactment of the battle of Monmouth.

The Battle of Monmouth was fought on June 28, 1778. The Continental Army commanded by George Washington attacked the rear of the British Army commanded by Henry Clinton as they left Monmouth Court House. After a lengthy battle Washington drove the British from the field. The battle showed that the continental arm was becoming more effective after 6 months of constant training at valley Forge. This was a very important battle in the American Revolution.

Mishap

Well you may have noticed that I haven’t blogged much about riding this summer. I meant to, believe me. I had planned “The Ride 2009.” But I had a little mishap with the bike in July and it took Harley 9 weeks to get it back to me. To be honest it is still not 100% complete. (Not to mention it was one of the worst riding season in recent memory weather wise with the rain and all).

I was, however, able to get a couple interesting rides in so I will be posting them over the next week or so. I have another SCUBA trip coming up soon. We’ll be diving on a new ship wreck. I will get some pictures and perhaps another video up from that. Also my band “The Ride” will be playing some acoustic shows starting next month. Asbury Park to Sandy Hook to Atlantic Highlands (9/11 Memorial)

Now that the weather has been clearing out a bit I want to share with you a nice jersey Shore ride. This is a ride John and me did last season.

On a beautiful August day we took a trip down the shore. We took the Garden state parkway South to the Asbury Park Exit. Headed east to Asbury Park. Passed the Stone Pony (a N.J. landmark where Springsteen, Southside Johnny among others started out), and road along the ocean North, through Long Branch, Sea Bright, up to Sandy Hook. In Sea Bright we stopped at Donavan’s Reef. Donavan’s has a Tiki Bar right on the beach. If you didn’t know better you would think you were at an island bar in the Caribbean. In Sandy Hook we had lunch out on the water at Bahr’s. Bahr’s has been there a long time and is famous for their lobster bisque. From Sandy Hook you follow highway 36 North over Highlands Bridge to Navesink Ave/Scenic Road, Stay right and follow signs for Mount Mitchill Scenic Overlook. This is the highest natural elevation on the Atlantic coastal plain. It has incredible views of Sandy Hook, Raritan Bay and the New York City skyline. This park is awesome home to the very moving Monmouth County 9/11 Memorial. On 9/11 many people came to this spot to see what was happening in N.Y.C. It is an Eagle sculpture clutching a beam from one of the fallen towers. The memorial honors both the lives lost and the fearless display of heroism by rescue teams and citizens who responded to the tragedy.

Adirondacks, Whiteface Mountain 6/09

After checking out the Americade tents in Lake George we headed up to Inlet, N.Y.

The next day after breakfast we headed for Whiteface Mountain.

Whiteface Mountain is where the downhill skiing was held at the Lake Placid Winter Olympics. Whiteface is 4,867 feet high. You can take the bikes up most of the way on Veterans Memorial Highway.

Once on top you can go through a tunnel that is carved into solid rock and runs over 400 feet long into the mountain and take and elevator to the summit.. Or you can hike it. I hiked it but the pictures below are in the tunnel.

Americade 2009, Lake George, N.Y.

This month was the annual Americade motorcycle rally in Lake George, N.Y. The show was arranged a little different then usual. More vendors by the lake in the tent section and less in town.

A very cool product at the show was from a company called "Rocker Boards." They are making a line of what I would call scooters, seen above. They are made to look like very early bikes. The scooters are automatic and look like they will be a fun novelty bike. They will be available on the market soon.

The weather kept some people away this year. (For those of you from northern New Jersey I don't have to tell you that we have had about 30 straight days of rain). When we left Jersey for Lake George it was pouring rain but it started to clear up around Albany. Then we had good riding weather for the rest of the trip. Greenwood Lake, West Milford, New Foundland area.

I've blogged about this area before. You can ride to this area right from the N.J. Botanical Garden in Ringwood. (The previous post). This is the N.J., N.Y. border, Greenwood Lake, West Milford, Newfoundland, Green Pound, etc...

It's a great area with unlimited options on where to ride and things to do.

Some of the best days are unplanned. We rode up to the Greenwood lake Airport. As luck would have it they were having an air show.

We got to check out WW 2 bombers and fighters as well as stunt planes.

We got to meet some of the pilots and watch the highly skilled stunt flying.

In the area there are many local places along the road to grab some food and get a drink.

New Jersey Botanical Garden, Ringwood

A semi well kept secret is the New Jersey Botanical Garden in Ringwood. It's only about a 30 minute ride from Bergen County, N.J. and a nice ride at that. It's a great day trip and there are a lot of other places to ride in the area if you leave early enough to get it all in. Be prepared to do alot of walking at the garden. Other rides in the area will be on a later post.

Exit on NY-17 toward Sloatsburg, N.Y. Turn left at NY-17/Orange Turnpike.

Slight right at County Rte-72/Sterling Mine Rd

Continue on Sterling Mine Rd. as it turns into Sloatsburg Rd.

Look for signs for the Botanical Garden and make a left on Morris Rd. Take Morris road all the way to the Garden.

Iron Knights Little League Run, Newark, N.J.

Well riding season 2009 is upon us here in the North East. We kicked off this year with a run in beautiful Newark N.J. (Joking aside there are some fun things to do and some cool place to go in Newark). The Iron Knights of Newark ran the event to raise money for the Newark Little League. It was an hour long ride out toward West Jersey and then back to the club house in Newark for a BBQ. Those of you from around here know the weather was crazy. It was in the 50's a couple days before this ride but in the 90's the day of the ride. We had a good time and good luck to the Newark Little League!

Well, things are settling down a bit since the SCUBA trip in Oct. There was a dusting of snow here last night and won't be much riding for the next couple months. I have a trip or two I did in the summer that I haven’t posted yet. So, during the long stretch of winter I will put them up. It will be nice to remember the days out on the road.

One event very worth mentioning was last month my Great Uncle Louis Buonocore had his 100th birthday. He still drives, goes square dancing several times a week and plays the violin. His family threw a very nice party for him and I met relatives that I didn’t even know I had. Happy Birthday Uncle Louie! I hope I got some of those genes!

At the end of October some fellow divers and myself headed down to Key Largo, Fl. to dive The USS Spiegel Grove.

The Spiegel Grove is a United States Navy Ship. It’s called a Landing Ship Dock (LSD 32),. She was commissioned in June of 1956 and she was decommissioned October, 1998 after serving in amphibious exercises along the eastern seaboard and in the Caribbean with several goodwill trips to Africa. She was moved to Florida in 2002 and was sunk to create an artificial reef in Key Largo.

The ship is 510 feet in length, 84 feet wide. When the ship was sunk it flipped upside down. But then it was flipped onto her side by putting giant balloons into it and raising it. When it was on it’s side I dove to the bottom depth of about 135 ft at the stern and swam up the other side. The depth at the highest point of the ship is about 65 ft. Due to the waves, surge and currents from Hurricane Dennis in 2005, the Spiegel Grove shifted and now sits upright demonstrating the incredible power of the ocean.

Diving the Grove is an awesome experience and adventure. When dropping down on the rope to the ship you start to see the silhouette at about 25 feet. It’s so big that you can’t see the whole ship and it feels like you are seeing the Titanic. It’s an excellent wreck with a lot of history. There are many places to penetrate the wreck. But do not go inside unless you have the experience to do so. I’ve been diving this wreck since 2003. I have about 20 dives on it and know my way around a bit. Enjoy the pictures below. American Journey 2008, (trip summery)

8,004.2 MILES

I rode 8,004.2 miles on this incredible “American Journey, 2008," and spread the word about the Wounded Warrior Project. I rode my Harley Davidson Ultra Classic motorcycle, hence forth known as “The Ride,” for 30 days on this trip. I averaged 266.8 miles per day. But some days I stayed close to one place and rode very few miles. Other days I rode over 500 miles. I stayed in one place about 4 days. If you subtract those days, I rode an average of 307.9 miles a day. I spent $949.28 in gas, that’s a little over $.11 per mile. The days went real fast. I did all those miles, the sightseeing and blogging everyday. I averaged about 7 hours sleep per night and then it started all over again each day, non-stop for 17 hours, day after day. It was tiring but it was great!!! (Click on the pictures to enlarge them).

Some of the animals that I’ve seen on this trip are,
Antelope, Mountain Goats, Bison, Coyotes, Elk, Different Deer, Prairie Dogs, Ducks, Lamas, Horses, Cows & Cattle, Sheep, Regular Goats, Donkeys, Big crows & lots of different birds.

This trip has been truly blessed with the weather. After I left Jersey, it got hit with rain for days. Then shortly after the 45 mph winds I experienced in SD those winds picked up to 75 mph. That would have made it impossible to ride through. After I got through the middle of the country, that area got hit with massive rain. I caught a little of it in Minnesota and when I left Salt Lake City, but I missed most of the heavy stuff. The week before I rode over the Bear Tooth Pass they got 2-3 feet of snow. But when I got there it was perfect. As I left California a massive cold front with rain hit the west coast and crossed the entire country. It hit the day after I left CA. and I stayed one step ahead of it for 3,000 miles. I couldn’t ask for more. Right now the entire west (where I was just 5 short days ago), is getting hit with a major snow storm.

There was a good amount of press coverage on this trip and it is still continuing. The “American Journey” was a featured story in 3 news papers and a KRNV (NBC) TV new broadcast. It was also updated 5 additional times in the papers and mentioned on another news broadcast so far. My "American Journey" trip was also announced on Sirius Satellite Radio live from the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Click on the links below for some of the stories and video.

Home Sweet Home! (American Journey)

I wanted to make it home from the middle of Ohio. Unfortunately I went off course in Columbus but wasn't sure at the time. I left my hotel room at 8:40 AM because I wanted to make good time, but I misjudged the weather. There was dense fog and it was in the low 40's at best! Add that to 65-70 mph when the fog lifted and it was cold! After an hour of riding I had to stop at a Burger King to warm my legs. I hadn't needed anything other then jeans this whole trip for my legs, nor did I bring anything. But I needed it today. After 4 cups of coffee (and another breakfast...shocker!), I put on my rain pants for some extra wind protection. Then I cowboy-ed up and hit the trail. It was a long, hard day of riding, especially when I was so close to home and was looking forward to getting there.

It was fall when I got back home. The leaves are changing and the air is crisp. It's a far cry from the 98 degrees I left in CA. a few short days ago.

I rode about 10 hours and here I am, rode weary and chilly, but home.

After Denver the road was straight and flat all the way through Kansas. Just cornfields, cows and grasslands. Nothing to do but crank the ipod and hammer down!!! When I got into Missouri I started seeing trees again. Not to mention a quick stop in Saint Louis for a view of the Arch at the foot of the Mississippi. I'm deep into the Heartland folks!

A "greasy spoon" but the best place I ate on the road so far.

Rocky Mountain High, (American Journey)

I left central Utah and headed for Denver. I spent over 9 hours in the saddle today and made it to Denver. What an unexpected and remarkable ride I had today. I didn't know that I-70 was going to be that scenic, but it was! I-70 east passes through or near no less then a dozen National Parks and Forests including Canyon Lands. The scenery was incredible as it has been on much of this trip. I stayed on 70 and didn't get off at any parks today, but that was okay because the road took me into, through, on top of and around canyons. It was like a smaller version of the Grand Canyon for over 100 miles.

Then I headed into the Rocky Mountains. I passed through or near Aspen and Vail. I had the bike wide open to make it up some of those peaks. Just an incredible ride and sight!

DREAMS

I was watching the opening ceremony of the Olympics. I was moved by the athletes determination and sacrifice that it takes to be at the Olympic level. I started thinking about dreams, goals, desires in general and what it takes to have those dreams come true. I picked up the guitar and wrote this song. "Dreams" definitely applies to this trip, "The American Journey." This trip has been one of my goals or "dreams" for a while. Experiencing the U.S.A. like this and being able to help other people while doing it is incredible. The best things are always win-win!

Eastbound and down, (American Journey)

I got the Harley serviced in Van Nuys, CA. A different looking dealership then most of the ones I've seen. Then I left the LA area and headed east (actually north-east). I crossed the Mojave desert where it was approaching 100 degrees. It actually rained on the way. Then I crossed into Nevada and spent the night in Vegas. Let's recap, by sheer coincidence I stayed in the 3 main gambling cities in the U.S.A. Atlantic City, Reno and Vegas. Good thing I stayed away from the tables! I also crossed the 5,000 mile mark.

New York New York reminded me of home sweet home.

When I got out of my room I found the bike with a plastic tarp taped to it. Apparently they started painting the hotel in the morning. At least the guy was consciences enough to cover it.

I left Vegas and crossed into Arizona and then into Utah where I stopped at Zion National Park.

I got to a town called Salina. There is a gas station, Mexican restaurant and a couple motel. The next town was 110 miles away. So I decided to stop there for the night.

Mike Milo (American Journey)

This is my buddy Mike Milo. Me, Mike and the rest of the "Buds" had some crazy adventures in our high school days and soon after. I did some of my first street bike riding with Mike. On a whim he got 2 identical beat up old bikes and we were able to make one street worthy bike out of the two...lol. But I don't think it lasted to long. It was a long way from those bikes to the Harley's.

Mike is an Award-Winning animator/director/writer/producer. Currently he is directing the show Chowder for Cartoon Network.
Most recently he was working in working in conjunction with Rocket Fish Studios directing 5 spots for Salegenie.com which aired during the Superbowl.
Prior to that he was Director of Animation at Gigapix Studios and won a 2nd Emmy award for his storyboarding on Tutenstein.

In 2006, Mike directed a pilot he created called Flavio for Nickelodeon/Frederator. (I wrote the theme song for Flavio and you can listen to the rough cut on "My Original Songs.") He also just finished up producing. directing and animating an 8 minute industrial video for the PHMA. Recently, he collaborated and illustrated a book entitled Ribeye The Bullbarian and the Jewel of Baloni which can be purchased on Amazon. On the side he is actively pitching new and innovative ideas around Hollywood even as we speak!

The Reagen Library (American Journey)

The Ronald Reagan Library and Museum is an incredible place. It is a fitting tribute to an outstanding leader and president. The museum also contains Air Force One. This plane was used from Nixon through 2001 for George W. Bush. It was a highlight of my trip!

From sea to shining sea, (American Journey)

At 4,453 miles I ran out of country! Here I am at the Pacific Ocean. I hung a left and started heading south down the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway, California 1). This road is a bikers Dream (minus the 4 wheelers)! Great curves, up and down mountains all on the edge of a cliff 100's of feet above the rocky coast of the Pacific Ocean. It's like a roller coaster at many points. There were 40+ degrees temperature swings. In the fog it was in the 50's and off the mountains it was in the 90's. Temperature swings every 30, 45 minutes to an hour.

Hearst Castle is the palatial estate built by newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. It is located near San Simeon, California, . Remember Citizen Kane? This is the place. I was surprised to see all the crows around, I remember them from the movie, They are real. Incredible places like this were able to be built because there was no income tax! I went at night so the pictures aren't as good as I would of liked. But you will get the idea.

San Francisco, CA., (American Journey)

I left Reno and got into California a few miles later. I passed through the Sierra Nevada's where the scenery was beautiful but there weren't to many place to stop for photos. Then I rode through Sacramento and into San Fransisco. Route 80 in California has been the longest poor road conditions. They are working on the road in many places and believe me they need to! The road was bad in Gary Indiana but this road is bad from the Nevada border to San Fransisco.

It wasn't all pretty!

This is the San Fransisco "Bush Man." (or something like that). He hides in his home made bush and scares people as they go by, then hits them with one liner's. It's actually pretty funny. Obviously he's looking for a hand out. Later in the day I think I saw him get in his limo. What a racket!

Alcatraz.

All the hills were alot of fun to ride on. So was the famous Lombard St.

The Golden Gate Bridge was an outstanding experience!

What a view! What a drop. The bridge shakes when you are out there and you really feel it when looking over the railing. The tall, bold Starbucks coffee I brought out on the bridge with me didn't help! lol.

I left Salt Lake City and rode straight to Reno. 523 miles, it took over 10 hours. It was the longest day of riding so far this trip. It was pouring rain when I left, them cold and some wind, then it got hot and then I fought the setting sun for several hours while I was headed west. But by that night I was in "the biggest little city in the world." I stayed the night and when I got up the next morning I saw roads closed and tents up all over the city. When I asked what was going on I found out that "Street Vibrations" was starting the next day. Street Vibrations is a motorcycle festival. I couldn't miss that so I stayed another night. Less then 3 weeks before I stayed in Atlantic City at Harrah's and now I am at Harrah's in Reno, completely unplanned
